Dear Colleagues,
The African Bioinformatics Institute (ABI) is pleased to announce a call for nominations for its Inaugural Governing Board, a central pillar of ABI’s governance framework and the Institute’s highest decision-making authority.
As ABI continues to grow, it is critical that the Governing Board reflects the strength, diversity, and expertise of the community it serves. We therefore invite you to nominate senior, highly qualified individuals with demonstrated leadership experience for consideration.
The Governing Board will play a key role in shaping the direction and sustainability of ABI, including: - Appointing the Executive Director, providing oversight, and evaluating performance - Reviewing and approving ABI’s strategy, annual budget, and organisational performance - Ensuring alignment of activities with ABI’s mission, values, and relevant legal and regulatory frameworks
Board members will be appointed for a term of up to three years. Please note this is an unpaid position.
To ensure broad representation, Governing Board members will be selected from across key stakeholder groups, including: - Industry / Private sector - Large-scale Pan African projects/initiatives - African bioinformatics diaspora - Regional African bodies (e.g. AU, NEPAD, Africa CDC, AU-BAR)
We are seeking nominees who: - Hold a senior leadership position within a recognised organization (e.g. Director, Head of Department, CEO, Principal Investigator, or equivalent) - Have demonstrated leadership experience (typically more than 10 years) in managing large programmes, teams, or institutional initiatives - Bring experience in governance, advisory roles, or strategic decision-making at an organisational or network level - Have a proven track record of collaboration, including involvement in multi-institutional initiatives or partnerships
All nominations will undergo an internal review process, and shortlisted candidates will be contacted directly for additional information.
