The African Bioinformatics Institute (ABI) is accepting
applications for
its Associate Group Leader (AGL) programme, aimed at recognising
and
supporting mid-career researchers (≤15 years post-PhD) leading
independent bioinformatics groups in Africa.
AGL benefits include:
Recognition within a continental network of emerging leaders
Opportunities to help shape ABI’s scientific, training, and
infrastructure agenda
Access to visibility, networking, and non-financial institutional
support
Eligibility:
Applicants must be based in Africa, lead a group (≥2 staff or
students),
hold an active research grant (PI/co-PI), have ≥5
first/senior-author
publications (last 5 years), show evidence of collaboration, and
provide
an institutional letter of support.
To apply, candidates must submit an online application form, a
detailed
CV, and an institutional letter of support confirming their
institution’s endorsement and willingness to support the
leadership
role.
Applications assessments will be based on leadership, funding,
publications, collaboration, and capacity-building commitment.
Diversity
(region, gender, discipline) will also be considered.
Appointments are for a three-year term, renewable based on
performance
and continued institutional support. Group Leaders must be
salaried by
their home institutions and able to raise their own research
funding.
